 Balance and Fall Risk Screenings
As we age our balance decreases and we are more prone to falls. More than 1/3 of adults age 65 and
older fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of accidental death in people 65 and greater and 95%
of all hip fractures are due to falls. During this screening, an Exercise Physiologist will provide
15 minutes of education and a 15-minute screening to determine your fall risk. This screening helps
to identify those people who are at risk for falling. Once identified, exercises and activities
can be recommended to reduce risks. This program is held periodically at various locations throughout
the community. For more information, call (937) 384-4857.
 Blood Pressure
If you are one of the 65 million Americans suffering from high blood pressure, your heart handles a
dangerous workload. Blood pressure screenings are provided throughout the community on a regular
basis. Locations include Kettering Connection and Lathrem Senior Center. For more information, call
(937) 296-2480.
 Body Fat Analysis
High levels of body fat increase a person's risk of heart disease, cancer and sleep apnea. A body fat
screening will determine an individual's body fat percentage compared to their body mass muscle using
the bioelectrical impedance method. A four-hour fast is required. This program is held periodically at
various locations throughout the community. For more information, call (937) 384-4857.

 Cardiac Calcium Scoring
Coronary artery calcium is a known component of plaque in the arteries of the heart that leads to arteriosclerosis. Coronary artery disease (CAD) due to the arteriosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the United States. This test is a quick, pain-free and non-invasive screening that uses a CT scan to detect calcium deposits in coronary arteries. Recommended for men between 40 and 70 and women between 50 and 70, this program is held monthly at Kettering Medical Center. For more information, call (937) 395-8092.

 Colon and Rectal Cancer Screening
The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 112,340 new cases of colon cancer and 41,420 new cases of rectal cancer in 2007 in the United States. Combined, they will cause about 52,180 deaths. A take-home EZ Detect kit can show hidden blood in the bowel movement which is one possible sign of colon and rectal cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends that every man and woman who is age 50 or older have regular screening tests for colon and rectal cancer. For health fairs and large groups, recommended time is 5 - 10 minutes per person to complete registration form and receive instructions. For more information, call (937) 384-4857.

Gail Model Breast Cancer Risk Assessment
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 33. Breast cancer death rates are going down. This decline is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and improved treatment. The Gail Model Breast Cancer Risk Assessment is a personal look at selected risk factors for breast cancer. Recommended time is 5 minutes to complete and 5 - 10 minutes to review with a nurse. Each woman will receive a copy of her score and review with a nurse. Available at selected health fairs. For more information, call (937) 384-4857.

 Glaucoma Screenings
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in the U.S. Almost 80,000 Americans are blind from glaucoma and another million are at risk for vision loss because they don't know they have it. Vision loss from glaucoma can be prevented if it is caught and treated in time. This program is held periodically at various locations throughout the community. For more information, call (937) 384-4857.
